Work at home UK based businesses are out there for you to consider.  The first thing you need to establish is whether you want your business to be a work at home UK based company or whether you are happy to start a business opportunity that is in fact offered by an overseas company (for example a company based in America).

If you decide that it doesn’t really matter to you where the parent company is based then you may find that you end up running a business that enables you to work at home UK based but is administered by an American company.  If this is the case then there are some things that you will need to consider carefully.

The first obvious thing to point out is the time difference!! Dependant on what state in the US the parent company is based in, the time zone between there and you operating your work at home UK based business may be considerable.  This is fine if you don’t think that you will need a lot of support from the parent company or you don’t need to contact the parent company on a regular basis. However, if you do need support or need to be in regular contact with them then this will mean a lot of very late nights or early mornings for you!!

Other than the time zone difference, you may also need to consider other factors such as the shipment of products.  If you work at home UK based business is set up to provide the UK market with a product that can only be shipped from America then you will either need to hold a fair amount of stock yourself or be prepared to tell customers that there will be a 5 – 7 day wait for them to receive their products.

Many companies now look after the shipment of products for you; i.e. you make the sale, inform the company and they then ship the products from their warehouse to your customer, in which case this isnt and issue. And of course if you are selling a service or membership, this wont be an issue at all, as all details can be emailed.
